Selection of the tiles depending on the type of promises
While selecting the ceramic tiles, not only is it necessary to pay attention to the aesthetic qualities such as style, colour, structure, selection of decorative elements within the framework of the collection, but above all, the technical parameters of the files, taking into consideration the input of work and costs related to maintenance and keeping the tiles clean.
these are the entrance zones exposed to the intense traffic, most frequently in shoes, exposed to bringing in the abrasive material in the form of sand, gravel and other grains, water as well as dirt. While selecting the tiles, bear in mind the high resistance to abrasion, the ant-slip properties as well as the easiness to clean and the stain resistance. The stoneware tiles with a high abrasion-resistance grade (at best 4th abrasion-resistance grade and higher) and delicate structure, and without grooves in which dirt could gather are recommended for the entrance zones. In the zones exposed to the impact of water, it is not recommended to use lappato and polished tiles.
the wall tiles for the kitchen should be selected with particular consideration for impact of acids and alkalis with weak concentration, resistance to the impact of daily use agents and stains. While selecting the kitchen tiles, besides the consideration for the above—mentioned parameters, it is necessary to take into account the mechanical loads, to which they will be subjected. The floor in the kitchen, especially in the cooking, washing, refrigerator or meals consumption zone is exposed to mechanical damage. It is important to select tiles with high mechanical properties (bending strength and resistance to abrasion).
the floors in the living rooms are exposed to the mechanical loads and dirt to a lesser extent. The criterion for selection of the tiles should include at least the 3rd abrasion-resistance grade with the assumption of use during wearing soft shoes.
the wall and floor tiles in the bathrooms are not exposed to the mechanical loads to a great extent. However, they are subjected to the impact of chemical and staining factors as a consequence of everyday use. For this reason, the tiles selected for the bathroom should create the possibility of easy cleaning with the use of the commercially available detergents, also those with chemical activity. While selecting the bathroom tiles, it is also necessary to pay attention to their structure. The greater the degree of structurality of the tiles the greater is the input of work and the cost related to keeping the tiles clean.
due to the great fluctuations of temperatures, the use of tiles with low water absorption and declared freeze-resistance is required. The freeze-resistant tiles must be laid out in accordance with the good building practice. It is necessary to use only such building materials, i.e. primers, glues and joints, intended for laying out tiles outside the buildings. Additionally, on the surfaces having contact with gardens and space around the house (e.g. terraces), it is necessary to take into account the abrasion-resistance grade of the tiles. The 4th abrasion-resistance grade is recommended for this type of the surface.
